Cystic fibrosis, haemophilia, haemoglobinopathies (sickle-cell disease and thalassaemia) and descriptive diagnosis
P. Lakeman, PhD, MD has been a clinical geneticist and medical coordinator of PGD procedures with the Amsterdam UMC since 2012. She studied medicine at the University of Amsterdam and the AMC, then spent a year in Zaandam as a resident with the Gynaecology and Obstetrics department, then embarked on PhD research at VU University Medical Centre, where she also trained to become a clinical geneticist. In her capacity as a clinical geneticist she focuses on couples who seek to have chlidren despite being afflicted with hereditary disorders, utilising prenatal diagnosis, screening for abnormalities prior to pregnancy and pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. She feels it is important to counsel prospective parents on their options and help them make a well-informed decision which is appropriate in their circumstances. In addition, she specialises in cystic fibrosis, haemophilia, haemoglobinopathies (sickle-cell disease and thalassaemia) and descriptive diagnosis.
